Like many Australian stories, it begins with migration – a child born in between worlds and coming of age in a strange land full of contradictions, but equally full of promise. Born to German parents, Annika Schmarsel found her calling to music at a young age: first on the guitar and later with sequencers.
Alice Ivy was created in 2015 on the release of debut single Charlie, a journey that would crescendo with the release of I’m Dreaming in 2018: a debut album that achieved great acclaim and featured collaborations with the likes of Bertie Blackman.
Alice Ivy’s eclectic signature sound spans the great aural divide, including soul, hip hop and electronic pop – allowing her to apply her unique musical dexterity as a multi-instrumentalist. With no fewer than eight consecutive singles added to high rotation on triple j and a reputation as an explosive live performer, Alice Ivy released yet another show-stopping album in 2020, Don’t Sleep, featuring Thelma Plum, Ecca Vandal, Odette and Montaigne.
