When the likes of Tex Perkins, Josh Teskey and Harry Angus James (Cat Empire) come knocking at your door looking to collaborate, you know you’re onto something mighty fine. With 2002’s debut 7” single Gravel Rash / Pie Warmer for a rousing curtain-raiser, Cookin’ On 3 Burners have become one of Australia’s most beloved ensembles – bridging the dance floors between funk, soul, jazz and some good ol’ fashioned booty-shakin’ boogaloo.
With soul-stirring Hammond organ, funk-driven guitar and infectious percussion, the trio have whipped many an Australian audience into a funked-out frenzy. But it’s not just at home that people are taking notice… the band have courted ears beyond the seas, featuring on a string of hit TV shows and touring with the calibre of Alice Russell, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Quantic and Fat Freddie’s Drop.
In 2009, the band hit number 1 on the UK iTunes RnB charts with the track This Girl (featuring Kylie Auldist). A 2016 reworking of the song by French electronic producer Kungs would reach #1 in over 10 countries and become the most played dance track globally of 2016 on Shazam. With album #9 imminent, this party remains truly unstoppable.
