A shape-shifting musical enigma. A commanding performer with a voice that has been described as lethal. Jess Ribeiro is many things… amongst them an award-winning singer-songwriter. Reared on the sonic succour of The Velvet Underground and Dusty Springfield, Ribeiro has crafted a truly unique path in song.
Oft compared with the Karen Dalton and Cat Power, her music is cinematic in scope: music that is born of sparse landscapes, lyrically rhythmic and evoking images that are hazy, dimly-lit and always electric.
Ribeiro’s debut album, My Little River, was an award-winning folk-country gem. Second album, Kill It Yourself, would thereafter break all the rules – produced by ex-Bad Seed and all-round musical polymath Mick Harvey, it proved a slow-burning indie-noir masterpiece that left reviewers scrambling for superlatives. Ribeiro would subsequently be called on to tour with the likes of Angel Olsen, Kurt Vile, Nick Cave and Steve Earle, releasing her third long player Love Hate in 2019, an album that channelled her first love in proto punk New York. She returns in 2022 with her boldest statement yet, the single In Love With This Place.
