WA’s south west is famous for many things… fine wine, legendary surf and ancient karri forests. Now it’s time to add another item to that list and it goes by the name of Old Mervs. Best mates since they were knee-high to a wheat bushel, Henry and David were reared on nearby farms in the rural WA town of Kojonup, a pin-point on the map between Perth and Albany.
But it was music where the two bonded, converting an old stable into a jamming room that would birth their earliest material – including Cellphone, Wait Around and Out Of Luck. The band soon caught the ear of discerning and legendary producer Dave Parkin of Blackbird Studios in Perth (Spacey Jane).
Newly released single Where I Go the first taste of the goodness to come: a delicious slathering of sun-kissed indie pop underlaid by a maturity that bellies the duo’s years. With a debut longplayer in the making, Old Mervs are set to follow the likes of fellow west siders Spacey Jane and Tame Impala on the road less traveled.
