Any Young Mechanic

Any Young Mechanic (formerly Wake In Fright) seeks to examine the complexities and contradictions of modern life through the sonic and lyrical lens of folk music.

The band is comprised of lead songwriter Sam Wilson on vocals and guitar, Luka Kilgariff-Johnson on electric guitar, banjo and lap steel, Thea Martin on violin, synthesiser, and clarinet, Allan McBean on upright bass and electric bass, and Jachin Mee on drums and backing vocals.

Any Young Mechanic are recipients of the Helpmann Academy’s Creative Innovator fund, to support the release of their 12-track record The Modern Shoe is Ruining the Foot, set for release in 2025. Their debut album will feature only acoustic instruments, live in single takes. This is a record that captures the moment, the connection between artists in a room, and the emotional, dynamic and rhythmic relationships that result.

The Adelaide outfit has played shows across the East coast of Australia, Japan, and are now set to grace Europe’s stages at UK’s Reading Festival, Leeds Festival, and the Rock en Seine Festival in Paris. On the brink of stardom, this band is one to watch!
