These records, which made up Cash’s late-career catalogue, have become infamous not just for their collaboration with producer Rick Rubin, but for the material that saw Cash look head on into some darker influences and existentialism without losing sight of his own musical vision. It’s this part of Cash’s career that served as a big inspiration for Wagons himself to embark on his own journey through gothic-country music, so the creation of a show like this, provides a full circle moment.
