Day : Saturday

Sampa the Great is a poet, songwriter and visual artist who strives to uplift, empower and inspire positive change. Her music is an eclectic brew of abstract hip-hop beats, African influences and spiritual neo-soul. Her delivery flows between rapping, smooth soul-jazz and poetic reflections – intertwined

with a clearly-defined, no-holds-barred political outlook.

Sampa has shared the stage with Kendrick Lamar, Lauren Hill, Thundercat & Hiatus Kaiyote. Festival appearances include Meredith, WOMAD, Golden Plains, The Great Escape & Laneway. In 2017, Sampa released Birds and the BEE9 to critical acclaim, taking out the prestigious Australian Music Prize.

Her debut flows through a collection of experimental beats and left-field rhymes shaped by Sampa’s wide-spanning influences of Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill, Thandiswa Mazwai and Yasiin Bey. After releasing her enchanting and empowered single Energy, her 2019 album is hotly anticipated.

Sampa speaks a message of healing, weaving dense lyrical mazes that draw listeners into a lush, imaginative world. Come down and get hypnotised by her lyrical spells!
