Wanderer Festival is a leader in environmental sustainability. We’re passionate about promoting awareness to all generations, with a vision to improve our sustainability goals each year.
Bega-based ecologist Hugh Pitty led our enthusiastic green team for our inaugural festival in 2022. There were no red landfill bins on the festival site or on-site campgrounds. Composting and recycling bins were provided and educating our audience on this waste solution was at the forefront of our sustainability initiatives.
This year, Wanderer Festival has proudly partnered with B-Alternative, an environmental solutions group promoting a planet- positive future. B-Alternative helps reduce the footprint of festivals and events by providing vendors with reusable cutlery, crockery and drinking cups.
Throughout the festival, the B-alternative team will be running onsite washing services and education on correct recycling and waste stream sorting to make your festival experience mighty and your footprint minimal.
We’re incredibly proud of the environmental consciousness of our community and our successful ‘leave no trace’ policy in 2022 inspires us to continually learn and find ways to improve.
Collectively we can minimise the environmental impact of the festival and work towards zero-landfill!
Please place food waste into the appropriate bin at zero waste bin stations. All food packaging will be reusable. Please drop these off at the B-Alternative tent to be washed when you’re done.
There will be minimal bins for landfill. If you bring any items that can only go to landfill, please take them home with you. We will have green-lid bins for organic compostable material for FOGO (Food Organics Garden Organics) and yellow-lid bins for recyclables. Our waste warriors from the green team will be on-site to guide you!
Campers will have hot wash stations to clean any reusable items brought from home. Reusable bottles and cups are available for purchase if you forgot to bring one.

Wanderer Festival is a waste wise event supported by Bega Valley Shire Council, who will assist in the diversion of waste from landfill and production of compost, alongside our festival green team.
